Completed surveys

The DZHW and its predecessor institutions (HIS Hochschul-Informations-System & HIS-Institut für Hochschulforschung) have so far surveyed 9 cohorts of university graduates and 22 cohorts of high school graduates. Survey topics for university graduates are their study histories, the assessment of study conditions, the qualifications acquired at the university, professional requirements as well as career transitions and questions of professional integration, allocation and development. The survey topics of high school graduates are their post-school educational plans, educational decisions, educational and career paths, as well as the underlying motives, goals, and attitudes.

28 cohorts have already been surveyed.

This includes, for example, the first two cohorts of students and university-eligible individuals surveyed by HIS in 1976 and 1978, who were followed for up to twelve years after obtaining their higher education entrance qualification. The cohort of 1990, which was last surveyed at the end of 2009, nearly twenty years after graduation, is also included. The same applies to the cohorts of 2005 and 2006, who were the first cohorts to be surveyed while still in school.

The graduate studies have been carried out since 1989. Since then, every fourth exam year has been surveyed several times. While the first examination cohorts were surveyed twice (one/ one-and-a-half years and five years after completing their degrees), since the 1997 examination cohort a third survey has been conducted approximately ten years after graduation.

The results of the completed surveys have been published and can be downloaded for free.
